ART PROPOSAL FOR FORSTERS LLP

RICHARD DEACON

Richard Deacon CBE is a renowned British abstract sculptor whose complex and cleverly engineered works retain an open and sensuous edge. Over a career spanning many decades, and working with some of the world’s most notable galleries and institutions, he has become well known for how he employs everyday materials ranging from laminated wood and polycarbonate to leather, cloth and clay, to create orgnanic and lyrical forms. He has recently created new works on paper.

Forsters is providing ongoing legacy advice to Deacon, and has helped with other additional personal matters. Richard says of Forsters: “In both cases [you] were quick to respond and helpful in the advice given.”

LUKE ELWES

Luke Elwes (b.1961) is a London based painter whose work explores how we encounter nature and the elements. He has travelled widely, gaining inspiration from the varying terrain and light of different places. Elwes is himself the son of an artist (a notable portrait painter of the 20th century) and his son Jake is a highly visible digital and installation artist whose work has recently been acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum. Catherine Hill drew up new wills for Luke and his wife.

FRED CUMING

Fred Cuming (1930-2022) was a British landscape painter in the old tradition. A popular and much liked Royal Academician, he devoted his life to expressing the fleeting impressions of his surroundings through paint. His work is about responses to the moods and atmospheres generated by landscapes, objects and spaces. Forsters administered the probate of his estate.

HUGHIE O’DONOGHUE

Hughie O’Donoghue was born in Manchester in 1953 and is now based between Ireland and London. His expansive canvases are evocative and mysterious, deeply driven explorations of person, place and identity. Hughie is a Royal Academician and his work is in public collections all over the world. He was introduced to Catherine Hill, partner at Forsters LLP, through Artistate Ltd, when he and his wife needed advice on how to structure their wills in light of their dual nationality.

MARILYN HALLAM

The colourful and carefully crafted paintings of Marilyn Hallam (b.1947) are being reassessed by a new generation of curators and artists. Hallam was married to fellow artist Clyde Hopkins. Together they founded Art in Perpetuity Trust (APT), a charity which still exists today providing affordable studio and exhibition space for artists. Hallam is now elderly and suffering from memory loss. Catherine Hill has helped her get her affairs in order, including a bequest to APT and writing a new Will.

CLYDE HOPKINS

The late British abstract painter Clyde Hopkins (1946-2018) was a critically acclaimed artist who had a remarkable influence on his peers and students. Together with his wife Marilyn Hallam he founded the Art in Perpetuity Trust (APT). Forsters helped draw up an agreement for Clyde’s pecuniary bequest to APT via his wife’s inheritance.
